“The child is the client – the parent pays the invoices.”

Over the past nineteen years, we have found that many problems with learning are rooted in a lack of confidence on the part of the child. As a result, the first task of any tutor is to heighten your child’s self-esteem.

Whilst individual needs may unintentionally be overlooked in a busy classroom, one to one tuition offers a vital opportunity to increase your child’s belief in his or her own ability. This is crucial in achieving success.

Our tutor will instill in your child:
• Confidence to ask questions without fear of being thought stupid
• Confidence to say ‘I don’t understand’
• Confidence to succeed

We believe there is a distinction between a teacher and a tutor. Teachers must be skilled in classroom control and are obliged to find a general level of learning at which all class members can cope – a practice which inevitably leaves some children at a disadvantage.

A skilled tutor will focus on the specific needs of your child and can instil both the ability and the desire to learn. Our tutor will help your child to understand the importance of education and its relevance to his or her own future. Children are often impressed by the presence of a young and enthusiastic tutor who is passionate about their subject.

Gradually, they come to realise that it can be ‘cool to be clever’. Once a student has the desire to succeed academically, our tutor will encourage them to take responsibility for their own learning.

In addition, we work with the best special needs educators in the world and are able to call upon their services at short notice for our clients’ children. Using their recommendations we can, if necessary, provide a tutor with experience in helping students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s, Autism and other cognitive and social disorders.

Throughout their academic life and beyond, your child will be required to process information, assimilate ideas, analyse concepts and produce written reports at great speed. The ability to do this is enhanced by our ethos, ‘learning to learn’, a long-term approach as opposed to classroom techniques which prioritise memorising facts. We strongly believe it is better to understand ten concepts than try to memorise a thousand facts.

There are certain skills which make examinations easier; skills which are not usually emphasised in the routine of school-based teaching. Our tutor will advance your child’s ability to revise, take notes and plan essays, as well as counsel and coach on examination technique. The latter alone can be worth between ten and twenty per cent of the marks available, depending on the structure of the test. Although obvious, it is worth stating that one per cent can be the difference between a pass and a fail.

Children are naturally inquisitive about the world around them and eager to learn. Mainstream education can often douse this love of learning. We aim to rekindle the fire.
