The Tutors Group is the premier source of tutors in Britain.
We provide tutors to work all over the globe, frequently with
the children of some of the world’s most prominent and
influential families. We were founded in 1990 by Tom Leopold
and now have around two hundred tutors of exceptional ability.
We help children of all ages (infants to A level) with specific
subjects, study skills, essay planning and examination technique.
One of our specialist areas is Common Entrance at which we have
never had a failure to the school of first choice. At GCSE and
A Level our tuition is a valuable addition to mainstream schooling.
We have found that many problems with learning are rooted in
a lack of confidence on the part of the child and hence the
first task of our tutor is to heighten your child's self-esteem.
Whilst individual needs may unintentionally be overlooked in
a classroom, one to one tuition provides a vital opportunity
to increase your child's belief in his or her own ability. This
is crucial in determining success.
Our tutor will instil in your child:
· the confidence to ask questions without fear of being thought
stupid;
· the confidence to say "I don't understand";
· the confidence to succeed.
In addition, we work with the best special needs educators in
the world and are able to call upon their services at short
notice for our client's children. Using their recommendations
we can provide the very best tutors, some of whom specialise
in dyslexia, dysphasia, ADD, ADHD, Aspersers, autism and other
cognitive and social disorders. We believe there is a distinction
between a teacher and a tutor. Teachers must be skilled in classroom
control and are obliged to find the general level of learning
at which all members of the class can cope.
Our tutor can focus on the specific needs of your child and
can instil both the ability and the desire to learn. Our tutor
will show your child the importance of education and its relevance
to his or her own future. Our tutor will encourage your child
to take responsibility for his or her learning.
Your child will be required to process information, assimilate
ideas, analyse concepts and produce written reports at great
speed. The ability to do this is enhanced by our ethos, "learning
to learn", as opposed to classroom techniques which prioritise
memorising facts. However, as world culture is dominated by
examination results, children have to memorise facts and concepts
and then reproduce them clearly and precisely, under time pressure.
There are certain skills which make examinations easier; skills
which are not usually emphasised in the routine of school-based
teaching. Our tutor will advance your child's ability to revise,
take notes and plan essays, as well as counsel and coach on
examination technique. The latter alone can be worth between
ten and twenty percent of the marks available, depending on
the structure of the test. Although obvious, it is worth stating
that one percent can be the difference between a pass and a
fail. Children are naturally inquisitive about the world around
them and eager to learn. Mainstream education has often doused
this love of learning. We aim to rekindle the fire.
