"A
simple way out of an eternal problem!"
This will probably be the hardest your child will ever be required to work. In a one to one lesson, there can be no staring out of windows or relaxing. It is intensive and exhausting.
As a result we have a policy of setting minimal homework, not least because we are mindful of the stress this can place on family life. As examinations draw close we reserve the right to give extensive homework if it is felt necessary.
However each student is required to read a book every week and this is what we would like them to be doing for an hour or so every night. The books will be chosen by the Director of Studies with the student.
To start with, these books may not be ‘great literature’. Do not expect your ten year old to come home with Tolstoy, it is more likely to be Wilbur Smith. We aim to make reading a pleasure and a habit that will last a lifetime. Once your child is reading for pleasure, they will automatically (with the occasional nudge) progress to the classics.
For students where reading is really an issue and for those who like to listen to something as they go to sleep, we have a digital library of unabridged books which can be downloaded onto an iPod.
